Shiveler Earns GCP Credential

Lisa Shiveler, grant writer at Walters State Community College, has earned the grants professional certified credential from the Grant Professionals Certification Institute.
Shiveler is one of 400 grant professionals nationwide who have attained the GPC credential. This certification is awarded to grant professionals who meet eligibility requirements and successfully demonstrate proficiency in the required competencies and skills of the grants profession. The GPC credential is based on rigorous standards and ongoing research.
“Lisa is an outstanding grant writer who has helped secure additional funds in support of numerous programs and initiatives at the college, such as grants to assist with the cost of childcare for our students and needed equipment for our health care and workforce training programs,” said J.B. Pectol, vice president of Strategic Communications and Effectiveness at the college.
“Earning this prestigious GPC certification further recognizes her many abilities and expertise that make her so successful as a grant writer,” he also said.
Shiveler joined Walters State in 2021 and has secure more than $6.7 million in grant funds.
Individuals who receive the GPC credential must meet GPCI-set standards that include education, professional experience in the grants field, professional development, and community involvement. They also must pass a two-part written exam testing the competencies and skills required of grant professionals. The exam includes building an effective grant application as well as project design, funding research, organizational development, ethics, grant management, funder cultivation, and professionalism. All GPCs must uphold the Grant Professionals Association (GPA) Code of Ethics.
