Green, Richards to Compete in Kennedy Center Acting Competition

Flynn Green of Sevierville and Liberty Richards of New Market were chosen after a festival representative saw them in the college’s fall production of Neil Simon’s “I Ought to Be in Pictures.”

The auditions are part of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). The regional festival will be held in February in Greensboro, North Carolina. Sixteen regional scholarships and two national scholarships are awarded annually. The regional award recipient will be chosen through three rounds of live performance.

“Liberty and Flynn are very talented, and I’m very proud of them representing the college for the first time at this festival,” said Jack Truman, director of Walters State’s theatre program. “In addition to the scholarship competition, both will learn so much at this Festival. Workshops celebrate all forms of theatre during the week.”

The KCACTF seeks to encourage, recognize and celebrate the finest and most diverse work produced in college theatre programs, provide opportunities for participants to develop their theatre skills and insight; and improve the quality of college theatre productions.
