Information Session June 10

Walters State’s Division of Workforce Training will hold a Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) class at Hancock County High School beginning July 21. An information session will be held on Wednesday, June 10, from 1-3 p.m. at Hancock County Hospital.

A representative from the American Jobs Center will be on-site to determine eligibility for funding for this class. Grant funding may also be available. Staff will be available to help with registration, but cash or checks cannot be accepted.

"This is a unique opportunity for those living in and around Hancock County to train for an in-demand job without driving to another county," said Dr. Linda Nelms, director of health programs for the division

The CNA class will meet from 5-10 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, July 21-Oct. 6. This class prepares future aides to perform routine patient care, which may include assisting with meals, exercise and personal hygiene. CNAs also report signs and symptoms that indicate illness. Students in this class learn how to take and document vital signs. The class includes lecture, a classroom skills lab and 16 hours of supervised patient care in a long-term care facility. The cost of this class without any financial assistance is $899.
