Olympic Gold Medalist, Title IX Expert to Speak at Walters State

Nancy Hogshead won three gold medals and one silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. She is a leading expert on Title IX and an advocate for women in sport.

Hogshead Now Leads Nonprofit Champion Women

Nancy Hogshead, Olympic gold medalist and civil rights attorney, will speak at 6 p.m. on March 31 at the Walters State Morristown Campus. The event will be in the Lyceum of the Dr. Wade B. McCamey Student Services Building. This is free, and no tickets are required.            

Hogshead won three gold medals and a silver medal in swimming at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. She also qualified for the 1980 Moscow Olympics but did not participate when the United States boycotted the games. 
           
Now, Hogshead is considered a leading expert on Title IX, which ensures equal opportunity to participate in academics, athletics and school activities. She is the founder of the nonprofit Champion Women and the author of “Equal Pay: Title IX and Social Change.”
           
Champion Women is dedicated to providing legal advocacy for girls and women in athletics, addressing issues such as equal pay, protection against sexual harassment, and reserving places and spaces for women in sports. 
           
A celebrated keynote speaker and thought leader, Nancy serves in numerous leadership roles and is a respected contributor to national and international sports policy. Nancy’s experience as a tenured professor of law, specializing in sports law, human rights, and first-year torts, has shaped her advocacy.
