A new HR Fundamentals Course will be offered by Walters State’s Division of Workforce Training in October. Other classes available are Microsoft Excel Level 2, OSHA 30-Hour Safety Training, and Certified Supervisor. Funding may be available for local industry leaders for classes taken by current employees.

Niswonger Campus

OSHA 30-Hour Safety Training, General Industry

Oct. 26-29, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., $449.

This training covers workplace hazards and workers’ rights concerning safety. This class can reduce downtime and prevent injuries. This is recommended for front-line supervisors, safety committee members and safety professionals.

Morristown Campus

Certified Supervisor

Oct. 5-Dec. 21, 8 a.m.-noon, Mondays, $1,500.

The Certified Supervisor covers these content areas: planning and setting objectives, leading and motivating, organizing and controlling, quality control, problem-solving and ethical decision-making, managing groups and teams, staffing and appraising performance, customer service, communications, accounting and finance. This class is excellent for human resource professionals who need to refresh their skills, new supervisors, or those seeking to be supervisors.

HR Fundamentals: Building Better Workplaces

Oct. 7 and 8, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. OR

Oct. 20 and 21, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., $150.

This class provides the skills needed to build and execute fundamental human resource processes. Learn how to simplify hiring, motivate employees, optimize performance feedback, and create human resource policies.

Microsoft Excel Level 2

Oct. 13, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., $150.

This course builds on content covered in Level 1. This class covers working with multiple worksheets and workbooks efficiently. Advanced formatting options are also covered. Learn how to manage workbooks, functions, formulas and data ranges.

Sevier County

ServSafe Sanitation and Safety

Northview Academy, Room C-118

Oct. 12, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., $129.

Based on the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation ServSafe program, this course includes study of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point system. This class covers all areas of food safety, including federal and state laws. Develop an understanding of the principles of sanitation and safety and be able to share that knowledge with coworkers.
