What is the cost of establishing a scholarship?

Partial scholarships may be established with a gift of $1,000 or more. Full tuition scholarships may be established with a donation equaling the amount of current tuition cost. Endowed scholarships are established with a gift of $10,000 or more.

How and when do I add money to the scholarship?

The choice is yours. For example, you may give yearly during the Annual Giving Campaign or as often as desired.

Does a scholarship cover the cost of books?

No, but a stipend can be added to the scholarship stipulations to cover the cost of books.

Can the scholarship be specific to a county?

Yes, a scholarship can be specific to any of our 10 county areas.

Can the scholarship be specific to a major?

Yes, Walters State offers over 100 programs of study.

Can the scholarship be specific to a department?

Yes, an example is certain scholarships such as Humanities are specific to music and drama.

Are my employees eligible for the scholarship?

Yes, upon establishing a scholarship specifics can be written in the stipulation agreement.

Can the scholarship be specific to my employees "ONLY"?

Yes, if stated in the stipulation agreement.

What is the difference in a traditional and non-traditional scholarship?

Traditional scholarships are designated for college students under the age of 25 that are first-time enrollees. Non-traditional scholarships are designated for college students 25 years or older that are first-time enrollees or had an extended absence from college.

How are scholarship recipients chosen?

Scholarship recipients are chosen by the Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee.

When will the scholarship be awarded?

In the fall and spring of each year unless otherwise stated in the stipulation agreement.

Will the recipients have to meet any specific requirements to apply?

Specific requirements may or may not be stated in the stipulation agreement, such as GPA.

Will the recipient have to reapply each semester or year?

Yes, if so stated in the scholarship stipulations.
