Walters State Plans Homeschool Open House Aug. 10
August 2, 2023
Homeschool families are invited to learn more about Walters State Community College
during an open house on Thursday, Aug. 10 on the Morristown Campus. The event begins
at 1 p.m. and will include information on programs for students in grades 3-12.
Plans for the afternoon are:
• 1 p.m. – General information about Walters State programs.
• 1:30 p.m. – Academic activity with third-seventh graders experiencing the workforce through virtual reality; and eighth-12th graders taking part in a natural science session.
• 2:30 p.m. – College prep session for students in grades 8-12 covering middle college, dual enrollment, financial aid, scholarships and the college application process.
• 3 p.m. – Campus tour.
The event is free and begins in the Lyceum of the Dr. Wade McCamey Student Services
Building. Students will have the chance to meet representatives from the Talented
and Gifted Program, meet instructors and hear from homeschool alumni who have attended
Walters State.
Senators Central, an office guiding new and returning students to graduation, hosted
the open house last year for the Morristown Area Homeschool Network with group administrator
Marissa Simmons initiating the event.
“Our online community includes over 1,000 families and this was the most popular field
trip that I arranged last year,” Simmons said. “Families enjoyed learning about what
was available at the college and how to take advantage of the resources.”
An RSVP is not required. For more information, contact Carrie Wilson, coordinator of enrollment development and campus tours, at 423-585-6858.
