Don't Miss These Deadlines!

     Four popular health programs at Walters State have application deadlines in May.
     The deadline to apply for the Physical Therapist Assistant Program is May 9. Physical therapist assistants rehabilitate patients suffering from various diagnoses that affect their mobility and overall functional status under the supervision of a physical therapist. Graduates work in many diverse settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, home health agencies, schools and long-term care facilities.
     The deadline to apply for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is May 15. Occupational therapy assistants work with individuals to learn or relearn skills centered around functional performance, including basic functions like getting dressed. Graduates work in hospitals, assisted living facilities, homes and schools. Graduates may work with a variety of patients or work with a specific patient group such as children, the elderly or acute care patients.
     The deadline to apply for the Respiratory Care Program is May 16. Respiratory care therapists assist patients who are having breathing trouble. This can range from diagnostic testing to emergency situations. Therapists work in hospitals and other health care facilities.   
     The deadline to apply for the Surgical Technology Program is May 31. Graduates who earn this degree assist physicians and other members of the surgical team with invasive surgical procedures. These allied health professions work in hospitals or in day surgery facilities and may be responsible for the sterilization of surgical tools.
