Walters State Engineering Technology Graduates Find Jobs, Career Advancement

An instructor demonstrates for a student.

For students considering a career in a technical field, a college degree can be more than a credential. It can be a path to a better job, a higher salary or new opportunities in an industry they already know.

Recent graduate survey results from Walters State Community College show just how valuable that path can be.

Every graduate who responded to a recent follow-up survey reported being employed within three months of graduation.

And the benefits extended beyond finding a job.

Take The Next Step And Learn More

Of 10 graduates surveyed from fall 2025 and spring 2026, seven reported receiving a promotion or moving to a position offering higher pay, greater responsibilities or both.

For Dr. Tera Howerton, dean of Business and Technical Education at Walters State, those outcomes demonstrate the opportunities available through technical education.

"What excites me about these results is that we're seeing graduates take what they've learned and use it to move forward in their careers," Howerton said. "Whether someone is looking for a new opportunity or hoping to advance in their current field, we want to help them develop skills that can make a difference."

Skills That Open Doors

Walters State offers several pathways for students interested in engineering and technical careers.

The college's Engineering Systems Technology program emphasizes practical, hands-on skills that can help students prepare for technical careers or advance in the workforce.

Students can pursue specializations in mechatronics, architectural design, computer-aided design, mechanical design, and operations management.

The college also offers Electrical Engineering Technology, which prepares students for careers in advanced manufacturing, telecommunications and other technical fields. Students interested in continuing their education at a four-year university can explore the college's Engineering Technology transfer pathway.

For someone already working in manufacturing or another technical field, returning to college can provide an opportunity to build on existing experience. For someone exploring a new direction, it can be a place to start.

And as the graduate survey results suggest, that investment in education can translate into meaningful career opportunities.
