Knoxville Artist Focuses on Traditional, Contemporary Contrasts

The Catron Art Gallery, located on the Walters State Morristown Campus, is hosting “In Limerence,” featuring Knoxville artist Anne Rochelle. The exhibit continues through Nov. 12.

Rochelle studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art and at Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy. Other galleries hosting exhibits of her work include the Mayerhoff Gallery and the Middendorf Gallery, both in Maryland.

This exhibit explores the contrast between meanings and images. Rochelle combines traditional techniques and subject matter with contemporary aesthetics and social sensibilities.  Her artistic interests are divided between draftsmanship and experimental abstraction.

“My work is characterized by this love/hate relationship with the canon, subversion in style, beatific and irreverent in equal parts,” Rochelle said.

The gallery will host an artist talk at 2 p.m. on Nov. 12 with the artist.

Located inside the R. Jack Fishman Library, the Catron Art Gallery is open during the library’s regular hours, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Friday. Admission is free.
