The cost of college can feel like a barrier before a student ever fills out an application. Last year, Walters State Community College students received more than $24 million in financial aid, enough to change important math for a lot of families.
That included more than $11 million in federal aid, more than $13 million in state aid and over $840,000 in institutional aid.
The message for students and families weighing the cost of college: Don't rule out Walters State before finding out what help is actually available.
Financial Aid Can Change What's Possible
Financial aid comes in a lot of forms — grants, loans, scholarships, work study — and Walters State has people whose job is to help students sort out what they qualify for and get through the FAFSA.
"Cost is one of the first questions many students and families have, and we never want someone to decide college isn't possible without first talking with us," said Dr. Angi Smith, vice president for student affairs at Walters State Community College. "There are resources available, and our team is here to help students understand their options and take the next step."
