The office utilizes resources of both campus and community agencies to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities and support them in meeting their educational goals.

Appropriate Accommodations

The Office of Disability Services provides appropriate accommodations for all individuals with disabilities who follow the procedures for requesting accommodations.

The college makes every effort to eliminate any physical or instructional barriers to ensure that all individuals with disabilities have an equal opportunity for full participation with minimal effort.

The Office of Disability Services must ascertain what constitutes a barrier on an individual basis, since the special needs are different for each student.

Services Overview

Our college vision, compact, and mission gives emphasis to meeting the needs of the students that enter WSCC. ADA and Section 504 mandate that higher education provide accommodations to ensure access. Access does not guarantee success. The student is responsible for using the accommodations to meet the classroom expectations. Academic and technical standards must be met. The law speaks of “reasonable accommodations”; however, an accommodation is not deemed reasonable if it imposes “undue financial or administrative burdens” or it requires fundamental alteration in the nature of the program.

Support Services are available to promote individual achievement. Efforts are made to ensure that facilities and programs are accessible to all students in accordance with Section 504 and the ADA prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability.
