Caving

A person exploring a cave

Date: March 28, 2025
Depart: 10:00 AM
Return: 7:00 pm
Trip Fee: Free
Additional Costs: Students are responsible for covering all food costs.

Join us as we hike, crawl, climb, slide, roll, and wiggle our way through Worley’s Cave. This Tennessee cave is  known for its voluminous size with rooms more than 75 feet wide and 250 feet long with high ceilings that often exceeds 100 feet. It is noted for its beautiful formations within its miles of passages.

The lower level of the cave contains a perennial creek complete with various fishes, white crayfish, and salamanders. We will explore rooms like the Hobbit's Hallway, the Fairy's Ballroom, Tombstone, Giant's Causeway, Thin Floor Room, the Hall of Masks, base camp, and the Bermuda triangle.

You will get wet on this adventure! This trip involves hiking, climbing (bouldering-style), crawling, and wading through knee to thigh deep creek water, so general physical fitness is advised. No previous caving experience required. This is a great trip for anyone curious about caving!

Walters State will provide helmets, headlamps, and guide services through the cave. Students are responsible for all food costs.

Registration is closed. Stay tuned for the next trip in April!

The impressive entrance leads visitors into a vestige of densely forested, unspoiled mountain splendor — once common throughout the Cumberland Plateau.

This trip will also include a stop for lunch. There is no trip fee for this one, but students are responsible for all food costs.
