What is the WS Promise?
At Walters State, we value the academic accomplishments of students from our area. Through the Walters State Promise Scholarship Program, we are guaranteeing scholarships to students who meet certain academic requirements. Like the Tennessee Promise, the purpose of the Walters State Promise is to help students achieve their educational goals. It funds costs, such as textbooks and travel expenses, not covered by the Tennessee Promise or other financial aid.
Senators Scholars and Senators Elite Scholarships
Senators Scholars is a guaranteed scholarship in the amount of $1500 per semester available to all high school seniors with a 75-hour work obligation to the institution per semester. Students must meet the following criteria:
- High school seniors with a minimum grade point average of 3.50 and minimum ACT composite score of 21 on a national or state test.
- Must enroll and attend in the term immediately following high school graduation, excluding summer.
- Recipients must maintain a cumulative institutional GPA of 2.75 per semester.
- Recipients must be enrolled full time (at least 12 credit hours).
- May be eligible to receive the award for up to four semesters if student maintains continuous enrollment (excludes summer)
- Students must comply with the institutional Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards.
Senators Elite Scholarship is $2000 per semester with a 75-hour work obligation. Same criteria as above; however, the minimum high school gpa is 3.7 and minimum ACT is 21.
Senators Scholars Dual Enrollment Award
Recipients of the Senators Scholars or Senators Elite Scholarship may also qualify for a supplemental Senators Scholar Dual Enrollment Award in the amount of $500 per semester if they have met the above criteria and also earned a minimum of 12 credit hours in Dual Enrollment coursework at Walters State Community College with a 3.0 institutional college GPA. The Senators Scholars Dual Enrollment Award may also be received for up to four semesters if the students meet the above criteria, including continuous enrollment.
Dual Enrollment Achievement Award
This is a guaranteed scholarship in the amount of $1,000 per semester available to all high school seniors with a 75-hour obligation to the institution per semester. Students must meet the following criteria:
- High school seniors that have earned a minimum of 12 credit hours in Dual Enrollment coursework at Walters State Community College with a 3.0 institutional college GPA.
- Must enroll and attend in the term immediately following high school graduation, excluding summer.
- Recipients must maintain a cumulative institutional GPA of 2.75 per semester.
- Recipients must be enrolled full time (at least 12 credit hours)
- May be eligible to receive the award for up to four semesters if student maintains continuous enrollment (excludes summer)
- Students must comply with the institutional Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards.
