Festival Choir To Perform Nov. 13 Concert
November 5, 2022
The Walters State Festival Choir will perform “Chronicles of Blue and Gray” at 7 p.m.
on Sunday, Nov. 13, at First Presbyterian Church of Morristown. The performance features
the choir, soloists and a duet, all backed by a chamber orchestra. Admission is free
and tickets are not required.
“Chronicles of Blue and Gray” blends spirituals, folk songs and anthems of the American
Civil War with original music drawn from speeches by Abraham Lincoln and letters written
by soldiers fighting on both sides. The music includes a conversation between General
Ulysses S. Grant and General Robert E. Lee. Also profiled in the work families divided
by the war, with members serving in both armies. The piece was written by John Purifoy,
a Knoxville composer.
Alan Eleazer, former choral director at Maryville College, will conduct the choir.
The Walters State Festival Choir is comprised of community members from throughout
the Walters State service area who enjoy choral music.
