Walters State Niswonger Campus to Host Fall Prevention Week

Walters State Community College’s Occupational Therapy Assistant Program and Physical Therapist Assistant Program students will host a free fall prevention event from 10 a.m.-noon on Sept. 13. This will be at the Niswonger Campus. The event is open to everyone and no pre-registration is needed.

“The Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that one in five falls can cause serious injury,” Jennifer Lawson, associate professor the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program, said. “These injuries can make it hard for individuals to participate in daily activities or live independently. Our students are excited to offer this free public service event to help educate and reduce fall risk in older adults.”

Those attending will receive balance assessments, information about common fall risks, and exercise recommendations for building strength and balance. Students will be working under the supervision of an occupational therapist and a physical therapist.

The Niswonger Campus is located at 211 North College Street in Greeneville.
