Stansell Completes Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command

Travis Stansell, director of the Walters State Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy, has completed the School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC) at Northwestern University.
The challenging 22-week program’s major areas of study include leadership, human resources, organizational behavior, applied statistics, planning and policy development, and budgeting and resource allocation.
“Travis continually seeks to improve his academic leadership in the law enforcement program,” said Chad Bryant, dean of the Division of Public Safety at the college. “He is considered a leader in his field and his classes require precise preparation and organization. His graduation from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command is yet another example of his profession drive to always improve.”
Stansell joined Walters State in 2021. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Carson-Newman University and a master’s degree from the University of the Cumberlands. He is also a graduate of the University of Tennessee Forensic Academy.
He began his career as a patrol officer with the Morristown Police Department. He served in the investigation division, in the support services division and as a school resource officer. He also served on the special response team, the public information team, and the child abuse and sexual exploitation team.
The Walters State Regional Law Enforcement Academy, based at the college’s Niswonger Campus in Greeneville, is an intensive nine-week course, providing over 500 hours of training. Upon completion, students are awarded the technical certificate in Basic Law Enforcement Officer Education. Once employed by a law enforcement agency, graduates are eligible to apply for certification by the Police Officers Standards and Training Commission as a certified peace officer in the state of Tennessee.
