The Walters State Hospitality Business Department prepares graduates for management positions in one of the world's most dynamic and fastest growing employment fields: hospitality and tourism.

Culinary Arts and Hotel and Restaurant Management
The Hospitality Department offers Associate of Applied Science degrees in Management with concentrations in culinary arts and hotel and restaurant management. A Technical Certificate in Culinary Arts is also offered.

 

Associate of Applied Science Degree in Management/Culinary Art and the Technical Certificate in Culinary Arts

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Management/Culinary Arts and the Technical Certificate in Culinary Arts are offered at the Walters State Institute for Culinary Arts. Students can earn the A.A.S. degree or technical certificate in culinary arts with an emphasis in either hot foods or baking and pastry. The A.A.S in culinary arts prepares students for successful careers in food preparation, cooking, baking, kitchen or restaurant management and non-commercial food service. The technical certificate in culinary arts is designed to provide fundamental skills in food preparation, cooking and baking.

Culinary Arts / Hotel & Restaurant Management

Facilities and Accreditation

Located at the Walters State Sevier County Campus, the Rel Maples Institute for Culinary Arts includes a 2,100 square-foot kitchen, bake shop, demonstration kitchen and dining rooms where students test their skills at catered events each semester. The Maples Institute was the first culinary institution in Tennessee to receive accreditation with the American Culinary Foundation Accrediting Commission.

Associate of Applied Science Degree in Management/Hotel and Restaurant Management

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Management/Hotel and Restaurant Management is based at the Walters State Sevier County Campus. This degree program prepares students to enter various phases of the hospitality industry, one of the most dynamic and fastest growing fields open to college graduates today. Students can choose from a hotel or restaurant management track. In addition, the program includes a solid business core requirement, affording students with a broader base of business skills useful in the industry.

A.A.S. in Management/Hotel and Restaurant Management Curriculum

The Walters State Hotel and Restaurant Management program is located in one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country: the Great Smoky Mountains. Hospitality students gain real-world experience through an internship program with area hotels and restaurants. Students learn first-hand about the many aspects of hotel and restaurant management.
